A Natural Hair Transitioning Story: Leesa’Ray

Tell me a little about yourself and your hair journey.

My name is Leesa’Ray. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York currently resign in Wilmington, Delaware. I love to be different express myself through my hair, clothing and makeup.

How long have you been natural?
I’m new to the natural world and looking to expand my knowledge on having natural hair. Over 8 months ago I decided to go natural reason being was because my hair began to fall out and become damaged do to the chemicals that I was putting in my hair.

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper & why?
A family member of mine who has been natural all her life suggested that I give it a try. With all the damage that the chemicals caused to my hair (breaking off, falling out etc.) I figured I’d take her advice. I started going natural in hopes that it would help my hair reconstruct itself and grow out healthier than before!

If you are a transitioner, how long do you plan on transitioning?
This transition for me is coming along ok so far. I’m planning on transitioning for good. Once I get use to the new look and learn what hair products work for my hair I believe I will absolutely love my natural hair.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey?  Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
Most memorable moment of my journey I would have to say was a few months back. I had no idea what to do to my hair so I washed it and blow dried it out made it puffy and added a headband!! It’s been difficult getting use to the natural look but as the journey continues I’m learning to get the hang of it!

What is your hair routine (including fav products)?
I usually wash blow dry add now or headband and go. I’m practicing different hairstyles until I find the right ones for ME! I’ve been searching for a product that would be good for my hair and I found one that was perfect for my hair which is castor oil (yes real castor oil) I love the way my hair feels and the shine it gives it not to mention it helps with the split ends!

What are some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles?
I love washing, letting it air dry a little, then putting it up into a Mohawk is a favorite of mines. Now that I’ve gone natural I also like washing it and blow drying it out to make it big followed by a clip or headband.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites, YouTuber’s, or blogs?
I really couldn’t find any that I could call my favorite until I discovered @globalcouture on instagram. Still I’m searching on YouTube to find Youtubers that I can learn from or should I say that will inspire me to continue with this journey.

What tips/suggestions do you have for other transitioners?
It isn’t easy at first but ‘stick’ to it and find the best hair products that work for YOU! It’ll become easy with time… (Slow and Steady) is the key.

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
