Naturallly Fierce Feature: Kuana

My name is Kuana Leggins. I am from the beautiful city of Orlando, Fl. Current Junior of the famous Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University studying criminal justice to become an aspiring detective.

How long have you been natural?
I have been natural for a total of 3 years

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why?

I have always wanted to be natural even after perming my hair back in middle school. Going into my senior year of high school I decided to cut my hair in short pixie cuts, it matched my fierce, yet sassy attitude. Only then did I begin to slowly slide onto the natural side.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey?Has it been easy or difficult or both?!

I must say the most memorable part of my journey was wearing my hair mad short and playing with color. During my journey my hair has been fushia pink, fire red, light blond, and auburn. After deciding to allow my hair to grow, I discovered that being my most depression stage. I hated seeing my hair grow into the stage of a mini fro after many years of wearing short funky looks and even a fade at one point. I learned that having natural hair boosts your self-esteem and bring forth a more confident you.

What are  some of your favorite protective hairstyles?

I must say my FAVORTIE protective style was the dread extensions. Ohhh my it was also my FAVORITE hairstyle of all times. The reason I enjoyed the dreads as much as I did was because I enjoyed being able to have fake dreads but everyone thought they were real. While everyone had poetic justice braids for Spring break 2k13, I remained unique with my dreads. I styled them in many ways and I just felt free in my own little world.

I love love love love love wearing headwraps/turbans. I twist them in many ways with many different colored styles of scarfs. This is by far my favorite look to wear. Each time i wrap my head i feel more and more like a queen and it’s pretty cool. My presence demands respect and the energy it gives off is incredible. Don’t be afraid to step out the box ladies 😉

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural?’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?

Natural hair is always a conversation starter. No matter where I go, I always seem to engage in a conversation about my hair.I have also noticed that males (of all races) enjoy seeing a black woman rocking natural hair. It’s just something unique about natural beauty that drives some of them nuts. With my hair being natural and short I turned many heads. My family did not approve of my fade cut but eventually my natural had to grow on them.

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?

One of my favorite hair products to use were Eco Style gel, no matter what length my hair grew, this gel got me right!

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?
I follow curlbox on instagram and only there is what has continued to motivate me to stay natural and try many different styles and products

Hi there! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this site? I’m getting tired of WordPress because I’ve had issues with hackers and I’m looking at options for another platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
