Naturally Fierce Feature: Tiffany

My name is Tiffany Angelica Eberhart, I was born and raised in Jackson, NJ. As a baby, my mother was so excited for my hair to grow so she could style it, but it would only stay short. Which is ironic because now I feel that it won’t stop growing!

 

How long have you been natural?

I have been natural since birth to about 8th grade.Basically, when you have curly hair you want straight, and when you have straight hair, you want curly; and that is just what I did. I believe my curls came from my mom’s side, being of the Puerto Rican race. My mother had very beautiful big curls, almost waves, while mine, are tiny and more Afro like. My mother gets her hair permanently straightened with the Japanese Straightening. Seeing her, and a few of my friends get this done, as well as wanting straight hair in general, I finally got it done in 8th grade and my curls were gone! I have just graduated HS and my curls are now back! When you get the Japanese Straightening you hair stays that straight and that’s it. The only thing is, is the hair that grows in is curly, for my case. So, I waited till my curls reached at least my shoulders, which took about an entire summer and this entire school year. One day my friend talked me into getting the straight part cut off, and I did it!. My hairs length used to be touching about the middle of my back… to now just reaching my shoulders. It took some getting used to, having curls and an Afro again, but I am so happy I did it.


 

How would you describe your hair?

I guess my hair is course, without mousse or gel; it is frizzy, but very unique. If my hair is short, it will be afro like, but when its longer, as it was when I was in middle school it does stay ‘down’ because its being weighed down. My hair is very African American like, which most people think I am because of my hair, and they are surprised to hear I am German, as well as Puerto Rican, plus a few others.


What do you love most about your hair?

I love that its not much work, all I have to do is wash it and put gel and mousse in it, let it air dry, and it does its magic. I love the unique look it gives me, and how many different hairstyles I can do with it as well. I get many compliments a day on my hair, and it reassures me that I made the right choice on getting rid of the Japanese Straightening.


What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?!

It was hard cutting off half of my hair, but I knew it had to be done. It was getting to the point where I could do nothing with my hair because the curly part were getting so much longer and the straight ends were just looking messy. Although half curly and half straight hair was pretty different, it now looks much better as it is now.

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?

Shampoo, wash out, condition, wash out, leave-in a little conditioner, brush out, apply mousse and a little gel. My hair dries looking like there is no product in it.
