Naturally Fierce Feature: KishaNicole

April 4

I’m KishaNicole and I was born and raised in New York. Lived in Atlanta the last 9 years and relocated to Houston last Thanksgiving. I’m married or 12 years been together for 16 years with 5 children. I’m a professional Blingologist and Embellisher as I work for myself.

How long have you been natural?
I’ve actually been natural about 9 months, so I am new to this world. Lol.

What motivated you to  transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper and why?
My oldest daughter, who is 18 now, did a “big chop” last year when she decided to go natural out of the blue. She also turned vegetarian 3 years ago. Her determination to commit to those decisions inspired me to join her. I’m still working on the vegetarian thing though! Lol! I already wore my hair very short, so it wasn’t an issue when it came to cutting it off. As far as I’m concerned, it’s hair and it will grow back!

How would you describe your hair?
I don’t know all the terminology “naturals” use and I don’t even want to be grouped and classified as this and that. I’m in my own lane. My hair is short and curly, not a real tight curl, but curly with a few straight hairs. I’m somewhat thick but not as thick as it used to be because of the bleaching. And I’m okay with that!

What do you love most about your hair?
That is a hard question! I LOVE everything about my hair! Hell, I love everything about ME! Lol. There is NOTHING I would change!

Any memorable part of the journey?
I don’t have anything negative to say. It’s been pretty easy for me. I adapt well to situations, good or bad, and look for the best in everything. I wish I had listened to my husband and done it sooner!
What are you favorite hairstyles?
I just went for it! That is the type of person I am. It’s all or nothing wit me. I just go for the gusto! I don’t play around with things, I just do it! I was always already colored for the last 20 years or so. I mean if you will walk around with hot pink or blue or purple hair on a regular basis, how hard could it be to just go natural?

Any reactions from others?
Nothing but positive! I get mad compliments on my hair all the time. Honestly, I really could are LESS what family or others thinks of my decisions! I live my life for ME! It’s about what makes ME happy and at peace! And Lords knows I have happiness and peace. Thank you God!
What is your hair regimen?
Well I only use 100% natural handmade products on my hair and skin. I absolutely do not buy products out the store. I make my own stuff or purchase from others. I have this one curling cream and conditioner made by Kawaii Curls, a company based here in Houston. I absolutely LOVE her stuff!! It smell so good!! And they give my hair a beautiful shine and nice curly curls just the way I like it! The owner is my FB friend and that is how I found out about her products.

What are some of your favorite hair blogs or vlogs?
Again, I’m new to this world and just really finding out about events and info on natural hair really since I moved to Texas. I really don’t know the bloggers and things of that such. I don’t think I want to know too much. Sometimes too much info can dilute something so good and make something simple and easy hard!
Anything else you would like to add?
Yes, do what makes YOU happy! Screw what others say and think! God made you to be an original and to be unique. Love yourself like cake & Create your own lane and stay there!!
Where can we find you on social media?
