We are Lizzy Lightyear & Venus, aka Big Hair Girls! We’re from New York, we’re sisters and we make music.

How long have you been natural? We’ve both been natural for about 5 years.

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why?

We both transitioned because we were tired of using harsh chemical processes on our hair. It just gets so exhausting trying to fight what your hair naturally wants to do! And we were curious about what our natural texture was like–we had been relaxing and flat-ironing it for so long we didn’t know. We transitioned instead of chopping because our hair grows pretty quickly but toward the end we both wound up cutting a significant amount of length off to get rid of the damage.

How would you describe your hair? Big cotton-candy puffs!

What do you love most about your hair? How much it’s a reflection of how we feel inside.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey?Has it been easy or difficult or both?!

The most memorable part is definitely people’s reactions! Everyone has an opinion that they want to share about how our hair looks! It’s been pretty easy for the most part once we got used to that.

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural.’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?

We get a lot of reactions as we mentioned–some people are fascinated by the texture, some by the color. Lots of people think we’re wearing wigs! At least once a day someone asks if it’s fake hair. And so many people want to touch it! Some don’t even ask–they just reach out and do it. So that’s been interesting! Also a lot of people say they like it but that “I could never get away with that!” And we always say, “Why not?!?”

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?

We have a really simple regimen–we both use the Cantu Shea Butter rinse-out conditioner, do a lot of co-washes, and our current favorite is the Curl Care by Dr. Miracle Leave-In Conditioner for after the shower. We also like Noodle Head from Beyond the Zone and the Curl Creme from Shea Moisture for curl definition. And for achieving the blonde color we swear by Dark & Lovely. Their hair color is so gentle and moisturizing–it’s the best we’ve ever used by far.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs? We LOVE Taren Guy!
