Naturally Fierce Feature: Tiffany

Hi. I’m Tiffany James from Ocilla GA now living in Lithonia GA.

How long have you been natural?

I have been natural for a little over 4 years and my luscious fro has been red the entire time.

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why?

I guess you could say I transitioned while I was pregnant my grandmother told me I couldn’t get a relaxer. So I either kept it braided or wore a sew in. Once I had my son I big chopped.

How would you describe your hair?

If we are talking “hair types” I have 4B hair…. it’s soft kinky coily and I love it.

What do you love most about your hair?

I love how hair takes to any style rather it be protective styles or wash and gos.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey?Has it been easy or difficult or both?!

My hair journey has been both difficult and easy at times. My most memorable moment had to be my second big chop. I went to my stylist with an 80s Soul Train Fro and told her to cut it in an asymmetric cut. She looked at me like I was crazy. Once she was done I wanted to cry and jump for joy at the same time.

What are some of your favorite  hairstyles?

Since I have big chopped for the 4th time my favorite do is either a wash and go or finger coils.

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural.’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?

Since I’m from a small town in GA the first reaction was are YOU CRAZY!! Oh no I wouldn’t dare cut my hair off and go natural. You ok with your hair being nappy all the time. I told them anything I wear I make it look good! I have surely show and prove how being being natural is fabulous.

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?

My favorite products are Shea Moisture and a local line called Kinky Kashmere. Once a week I cowash with Kinky Kashmere conditioning mask. It’s great for conditioning and detangling. Then I follow up with Shea Moisture curling souffle and eco styler.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?

Between IG and YouTube, I follow MissKenK she’s the best for styling and fashion.
