Naturally Fierce Feature: Tiffany

My name is Tiffany Macklin. I am from NC. I am a 30 year old mother of 3. This is my second time returning to my natural roots. My first experience went terribly wrong from having my hair pressed out but my second time around is wonderful. I feel more knowledgeable about my hair and I am an avid reader of all things.

How long have you been natural? I have been natural a year as of May 16, 2014 but I have only been growing my hair out since August (9 months).

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why? I didn’t transition the first or second time. I big chopped. I love it. The part of watching my hair grow out beautifully helped me to learn a lot about myself.

How would you describe your hair? I would describe my hair as I would myself because I am free spirit with a wild heart and mind set on positive. My hair does what it wants no matter how much I try to train it. So I just go with the flow. If it works it works if not I still embrace it and learn from the experience.

What do you love most about your hair? I love the tight kinky curls and the way it feels the wind is blowing through it.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?! The most memorable part of my journey thus far is watching my growth from my big chop. The difficult part so far has been trying to embrace it when I say I’m having a bad hair day but others say they love it, lol.

What are (or were) some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles or current dos’? I love my twist out and now wash n go’s now that I have learned how to do them, lol. My current do as of now is wearing my afro. I blow dried my hair out for the first time in 9 months and I am utterly amazed at the length.

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural?’ Any memorable reactions from family or others? My most memorable moment was the day a lady saw me with no hair and she told me “Honey you look gorgeous with or without hair.” “Either way you can rock it, rock on my sister.” From that day I learned to love my hair and live for the moments when my hair is fierce.

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)? I mainly use Cantu Leave in Conditioner and Cantu Coconut Curling Crème. I also use KeraCare products. This month I am mainly doing wash n go’s. I refresh it twice a week with a spritz of water from a water bottle and apply Cantu leave in and Cantu Coconut Curling Crème and use KeraCare Hair Milk. At night I use a satin bonnet and I sleep with a satin pillow case.
