Naturally Fierce Feature: Babaliece

Hello lovely people! My name is Babaliece, but everyone calls me Babs. I’m from Clarksdale,MS. I currently reside in Columbus,  MS. Yes, I’m a southern belle :). I’m 25 years young. I’m currently a nursing assistant and a student. I’m going to school for Physical Therapy. My plans for the future include becoming a successful Physical Therapist and possibly working for myself some day. I’m very outspoken, open minded, and sometimes loud just like my hair.

How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural since January 2012 and I freaking love it! My only regret is not going natural sooner.

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper & why?
I was a big chopper. I’ve always expressed yourself through my hair. I’ve always tried different colors and cuts so cutting off my hair was not that big of a step. Truly i did it out of boredom! I felt like I tried every style that I could think of from long hair, to short hair, to shaved on both sides. So i decided to let my hair get long enough on the shaved sides to “shag” up a little. Once i got to that point I gave my room mate the scissors one night and told her to cut my hair as even as possible. And I guess you can say the rest is HAIRstory.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
The most memorable part of my natural journey was the first time I colored my hair. It was a lesson learned. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had one box of hair dye! I had no idea I needed two or that my hair would change colors so fast. And the color was nothing close to what i wanted. It literally had to grow on me and soon I started to appreciate my new “mistake”. Being natural in the beginning was not easy. I thought my hair was suppose to magically be this defined and beautiful head of hair. I didn’t know what products to use or to stay away from certain products. But with plenty of YOUTUBE along with trial and error I now know what my hair loves and its way easier to maintain.

What are  some of your favorite  hairstyles?
My favorite style is definitely the PUFF. Its fast and easy. Even in the beginning of my natural journey it was my favorite style. I’m also a flat twist out fan to the max! It gives my hair that definiton and the look that I’m always looking for plus its super easy to do.These styles never disappoint me unless my hair doesn’t dry with the flat twist out and if it doesn’t that’s when the lovely puff comes to save the day. When I’m feeling a like rock star or want an edgy look I rock the mohawk with twist or braids.

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural?’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?
My experiences as a natural have been awesome. My friends and family at first could not believe I went natural. Now they can’t see me without my fro! Even strangers come up to me and ask me about my hair. I don’t mind the attention at all :). Just don’t touch it! I call that “hair raping”.

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
I’ve currently started using new products by the Beautiful Textures line. And my hair loves it. The shampoo, conditioner, and the oil too. The moisture my hair gets is unbelievable. I also use Cantu products as well. I love to cowash my hair with Tresseme Naturals conditioner. I cowash more than anything, never been a big fan of shampooing even before I was natural but when I do shampoo I use the Beautiful Textures shampoo. I’m a natural that is not a fan of shrinkage. So to prevernt shrinkage on a old two strand twist out I use cloth like hair ties. I gather a bundle of two strand twist together and wrap the hair tie from my roots to the very end of my hair. This gives my hair the stretch I want as well as volume too. At bed time I use a silk scarf or silk bonnet or both.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?
I am a fan of TiffanyNicholsDesign on YOUTUBE. I follow her on Instagram as well. She is beautiful and she keep a hot natural style. I’m just really getting into websites and blogs. The global couture blog is awesome.

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
DON’T EVER BE AFRAID TO EXPRESS YOURSELF! If its your hair, fashion, or words be yourself and the rest will follow. It will never matter if you are rocking kinky hair, straight hair, no hair, or a tiny weenie afro you are beautiful and I encourage every woman to EXPRESS YOURSELF!
