Naturally Fierce Feature: Francheska

Hey my name is Francheska Delarosa and I was born and raised in Brooklyn NY. Since a baby girl I had long thick coarse hair; hair my mom did not have the patience to tame. So at the age of 5 I got my first perm and continued to perm it every two months till the age of 18.

How long have you been natural?

I’ve been natural for 3 years now and still working on it.

What motivated you to go natural?
The thing that helped my transition was going away for college. Went to school on a farm and there weren’t any salons around where I can go damage my hair. So I just waited for a perm but during waiting I saw that even tho my roots were thick and puffy; my hair was getting easier to untangle. And products were starting to work better. I was a transitioner I was afraid of not liking the transition so u waited.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey?
The most memorable part of this journey is how manageable my hair has become. It used to take hours to comb this out. How little hair falls out now. How alive and healthy my hair looks. How thick it looks but how soft it feels. This journey started off being a difficult one because I wasn’t used to what was happening and I didn’t know what to do to my hair. But as time went by my hair got softer and I learned how to twist it.

What  were some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles and current hair styles?
When I first started this journey my favorite thing to do at night was braid it and twist it then take it out in the morning but as I’ve grown to love this lifestyle and done some research. My favorite thing to do is rod it the night before and rock out my afro the next day.

Any memorable reactions from family or others?
Now after going natural I get way more OMG your hair is so nice from people. LOL it makes me blush a little. And I mean all types of people boys, girls, little kids, even white people who don’t really know hair like we do.

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?

I use the Miss Jessie Curly Pudding a lot and some Granier Fructis Style-Sleek Shine & Anti-Humidity so that my hair doesn’t look dry.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites, YouTuber’s, or blogs?

I love Mahogany Curls; I stick to watching her I like her methods and I’m still new to following others foot steps I’ve kind of been doing my own thing this whole time.

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?

Natural beauty is the best beauty we were blessed with thick hair don’t punk out and kill it with the nastiness of chemicals and just take the time to take care of yourself and your hair and just watch how many heads you’ll turn. Dare to be different. I dare you to stand out.
