Naturally Fierce Feature: Sandretta

My name is Sandretta Sturdivant & I’m from the SMALL town of Wadesboro, North Carolina (yes I’m a country girl). I’m 28, in a relationship (Derek), a mother of two; Tyler (my Prince) who is 6 & Jordin (my Princess) is 5, she’s also a Naturalista!

How long have you been natural?
My last perm was March ’10 & I cut the rest of my ends off in August ’11

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper & why?
My motivation to transition was that I wanted something different. My oldest sister had been natural for 3 years prior and never wore her fro out, so I was determined to do what she was afraid to do & show everyone how good I can still look doing it! I didn’t do a big chop, only because I felt that it wouldn’t suit my face. I transitioned for a total of 17 months.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
The most memorable part was when I cut off the last of my relaxed ends, which was about 4 or 5 inches…I was in shock! I couldn’t believe I was bold enough to do it! The journey has been both easy & difficult. Being that my hair is longer, I find that the products my hair once loved, does nothing for it now. That can be very frustrating at times.

What were some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles?
I wore Mohawks, buns, updos, braid outs, Bantu knot outs, wigs

Any memorable reactions from family or others?
So far, most of my experiences have been positive. I come across lots of females who say they wish their hair looked like mine…I just smile and say everybody hair is different, embrace what you were given & wear it proudly! I’ve also inspired many women to go natural as well…that means a lot to me! I do remember when I first

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
Honestly I don’t have a set regimen…I mainly try to keep my hands out of my head. I’m a big fan of protective styling. My motto is less is more; meaning I try to get away with doing as less as possible if my hair allows me to! My staple products are Shea Butter, Olive Oil & Grape seed Oil…my hair loves those!

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites, YouTuber’s, or blogs?
Oh boy I have so many! All Things O’Natural Blog, Naptural85, Ashiek1118, Fusionofcultures, AliciaJames, Mahoganycurls on Youtube….there are LOTS more!

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
I’m a lover of ALL things family, God, hair, nails & fashion! I love it all from TWAs to Locs (maybe I’ll loc in the near future)! In my spare time I love doing my daughter & I nails. I’m in love with music as well…it heals the soul! Hair wise…don’t get discouraged if your hair isn’t her length or if your curls aren’t as defined as hers or even if you don’t have curls…everybody is meant to be different. Be content with what you have & MAKE IT WORK!
