Naturally Fierce Feature: Sharee

My name is Sharee and I am from the DMV!!! DMV Stand UP 🙂 I am 27 and have a fiancé, and two beautiful kids that are 2 and 4 years old J

How long have you been natural? Started my journey in September 2010

What motivated you to transition?
I have a hair journey of someone who wanted to go natural, but felt like my head was too big for a big chop! *so serious* But I started thinking of going natural after repeatedly damaging my hair with dyes and perms. I received my first Just For Me at 5, and had no recollection of my natural hair type previous to then. The most I would see is my new growth in-between perm time. I then in February of 2009 tried it, I cut out all perms and started wearing protective styles. Once the summer time showed it’s face, I quickly gave up because of the time and effort I had to put into my (2) textured hair. I then PERMED IT! OH NOOOOO! I realized once I permed my hair, how just those (6) months of going natural, I missed my volume. So, I tried again, to go natural, and relapsed one more time in September 2010. That was my last relaxer. After the slippage in September 2010, I decided to go heat free and relaxer free and start my transition Again. I never did a big chop, I just let my hair grow, and cut my hair gradually.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey?
The beginning was very difficult, because you see all these wonderful YouTube videos of natural hairstyles and maintenancing, but have to figure your hair out. I had to see what products work on my hair, what styles were more manageable for me. The most memorable part all together, is influencing other sisters to let the chemicals grow out and be comfortable with your God given beauty.

What  were some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles?
Goddess Crown Braids, Twist Outs (of course), and Flexi Rods (with no heat)

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural?’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?

I have had mixed reactions. The most positive is coming from surprising enough the younger generation in my family. My grandmother told me “ I need a perm”, I’m like Gran Gran I love you but no thanks I Love My Kinks Too Much!!

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
I love Mango Butter by QP. It smells amazing and leaves my 4a/4b hair texture so soft after a twist out. I also like One and Only’s Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner, and another favorite is Coconut Oil!

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?
I love curlynikki.com, and being on the forum during my transition is where I found a lot of my transitioning styles and tips. I love HairCrush on YouTube she is my hair inspiration, and Taren Guy also on YouTube she is amazing!

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
Just not to give up! In the beginning learning your natural hair texture is the hardest. Findinging out what works for you and what doesn’t. Once you learn your texture, the styles that you love, and products best for your hair type it is almost smooth sailing from there.

Where can people find you for more information?
I am a Instagramoholic and my IG is a_natural_gem 😉
