Naturally Fierce Feature: Bryanna

My name is Bryanna Morris I’m from New jersey and I am 22 years old.

How long have you been natural? Going on 4 years

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why? I had been wearing sew-ins for a couple months and when I went to the Salon to get my next one My Stylist, who also happens to be my best friend talked me into to big chopping. By that point she was natural and was trying to talk us all into joining. She eventually got us. Now our entire crew is kinky & curly.

How would you describe your hair? Most of my head would be categorized as 4a. I have tight silky coils. The back of my head tends to the 3c range. Not quite a full 3c but the curls back there are looser and bigger.

What do you love most about your hair? I love the versatility of being a natural. I love to play with colors and shapes. Which is part of the reason after almost 4 years of being natural I still have short hair. I just keep cutting it! LOL

What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?! At one point I went completely platinum blond. It was fun but I paid for it later when my hair grew out and I had to chop off a good inch and a half because my ends were fried! Its been a relatively easy ride, only because I realized that being a fly natural doesn’t mean you have to have curls to your behind. As long as you rock what you have. My future goal is to grow it out though. Just to say I did it.

What are some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles?  Right now I have Marley twists, I get stopped in the street by people telling me how much they love them. I especially like them up in a huge bun. My favorite ‘do’ however is the one I have under these twists.  I have this bold asymmetric cut that’s bright red with a blonde patch in the front. Whatever I do I have to keep a little blonde in my life.

Any memorable reactions from family or others? I remember thinking when I big chopped that I was going to look like a boy and dudes were gonna hate it. And some of my guy friends did the OMG why would you do that!! Which I expected.  But because I had this short cut 1. I felt like my face had to be beat at all times so it made me get into makeup and learn what really looked good on my face. 2. I got A LOT of male attention. Especially from guys who were natural themselves (i.e Locks) I realized you make the cut, the cut doesn’t make you. When you ooze confidence people notice.

My grandmother has had the best reactions. Shes used to me walking up with something she deems ”crazy” now but in the beginning If I had a nickel everytime she asked me if I was going to straighten my hair I would be a millionaire.LOL

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)? My hair doesn’t tangle much, but it does dry out quickly. Im big on co-washing I LOVE Aussie brand Moist Line for everyday co washing. I use Cantu She Butter Leave-in conditioner as well as  Crème of Nature Argan oil spray leave-in. I seal with coconut oil cooking spray. My friend turned me on to it and im obsessed. Plus its nice to spray on your scalp when you have braids or twists. When I deep condition I use Cantu shea butter Deep treatment masque and a palmful of olive oil.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs? First and foremost my greatest natural hair inspiration is my Stylist & best friend Kara Anderson you can follow her on IG @haircolorkilla she’s a magician, and probably the reason I even have any hair at all.

My Hair Crush is @NikkiBCurly because we have almost identical textures and her wash & go’s give me life

I love @neffyfrofro I have been following her on Youtube and them on IG for a while now. Her hair is amazing and always has really dope protective styles.

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words? Going natural is not for the faint of heart. I thought going natural was going to be easy. Its not. It’s a lot of work and you are going to want to give up all the time. I know I did. But if you have a good support system you can do it. Im lazy, I hate twisting my hair up at night, Bonnets make me hot, and sometimes you just don’t feel like doing it. But theres so many people now who have done it and continue to do it and have these amazing tresses! My biggest word of inspo is just stick with it. I cansay for me its been worth it. I have messed up along the way and paid for it, but all in all I can say it’s the best thing Ive ever done for myself.

Where can people find you for more information? The best place to find me is on IG @2infinityandbree_ond

Thanks Bryanna. Your twa & color are EVERYTHING!
