Naturally Fierce Feature: Jerzie

My name is Jerzie (born in NJ, hailed from Philly) “Frodelphia” is what I call it! I am doing my Natural Thang for the 4th and final time Dredlocks 2 times, Sisterlocks 1 time and Now the Big Chop to my Natural Journey! How long have you been natural?

I have been natural for 2yrs now coming from Dreds and then a perm.

What motivated you to transition? I’ve been wanting to “stay” natural for years now but just didn’t know my look wasn’t within having my hair twisted (dredlocks) permanently or any crochet method (sisterlocks).
It was meant to be just naturally out…the bigger the better! Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why? I started out as a transitioner but struggled with my straight ends which turned out to be half of each strand of hair that was on my head that would stick straight out or clump together like dog hair so I got frustrated and took the leap toward the Big Chop.
How would you describe your hair?
I would describe my hair as Tightly Curled, Kinky Curled, Thickly Waved.
What do you love most about your hair?
My baby curls and waves, who would’ve ever knew that my hair was this beautiful underneath all those perms!!

What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?!

My Big Chop will always be my memorable moment……I cried like a baby for 2 hrs straight lol. The most difficult part is coming from Long Hair and having to start all over with short hair and seeing others with long natural hair and feeling jealous. The easiest part is to wash and go (low maintenance).

What are some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles?

My favorite is to twist up the entire back and have the front portion of my hair wet and curly, pushed to the side wavy or single/two strand twisted. These styles are easy and they last a long time.

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural.’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?

My family has always supported. I find it hard that men or coworkers struggle the most with my look of being natural due to they are so use to me having long hair.
What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
I am so in love with As I Am products. I Cowash twice a week and Shampoo once a week. Massage oil my hair and scalp every other day.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?
My favorite bloggers/Youtuber’s are Mynaturalsistas because they are related but all have different hair textures and they promote healthy natural hair.
Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
What I would say to any Newbies to the Natural Community is to “Grow Some Patience”…..I stand by those words!!!!
I would love to date a man who has dreds….what natural chic doesn’t lol? I love my fro but truly want it to grow quickly. My favorite styling tip would be two strand twist pinned all back, it promotes growth and easy to manage….just tie it down at night with a silk head wrap and silk bonnet!!! I would like for society to stop thinking Nappy is a bad thing…..It’s unique and beautiful because there are no two heads alike!
