My name is Tatiana Harvey and I will be 25 November 29. Yea! I’m from Los Angeles, Ca. Both sides of my family are Jamaican. I lived there my entire life until I moved to Bakersfield, Ca where I attended college. In my second year I welcomed my lovely little girl to this world. Three years later I earned my Degree. I later began to explore my creative side again and started drawing and painting. Later started my company Tyeink. (pronounced tie-ink) www.tyeink.com. This is just my creative outlet focusing on the beauty of life while finding myself. I love to promote the beauty of women and natural hair. I feel it is so important that every woman out there knows how beautiful and important they are. I now reside in Greensboro, NC with my fiancé and biggest supporter Britt Hill.
I have been natural since October 2011
What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper & why?
At the time that I decided to transition I was looking for a change. I was so tired of constantly straightening my hair only for it to poof the next day. I had my first weave installed in 2010 and thought that it could be an easier style to wear, because I refuse to perm my hair. The last weave I took out left my hair so thin and destroyed I was devastated.
My most memorable part of being natural was the first time I seen my natural curl pattern. It took my hair a bit of time to transition but once it began I fell in love with it! Both! It hasn’t been too hard of a journey, I did a lot of research during my transition that helped me through the difficult times like next day hair and how to get 2 or 3 days for a twist or braid out. Now that I know my hair and myself this journey has become a lot easier.
My experiences have been awesome! So many of my friends have transitioned saying I helped to inspire them! And honestly that type of feedback inspires me as well. When I normally out a lot of people stare and follow with OMG I love your hair!! I used to be shy and say thanks, now I hand out a business card to those who ask how do I do it. I offer some tips I think my help on my website because I know it could help someone out there. My most memorable question had to have been this older caucasian gentleman “how do you curl your hair my wife takes hours to get her curls?’ I simply told him I was born this way.
I normally do a braid out. Its quick and easy and last a lot longer than twist outs for me. I do about 10 braids every other night or less. I always moisturize my hair with water, leave in conditioner, followed by my homemade shea butter and oils.
My favorite of all time is Naptural85!! Others include NaturalNeiicey, and HeyFranHey 🙂
I just want everyone out there to know that natural hair is a process it will not work over night. Just forget about length and hair types, and focus on health hair the rest will take care of itself. No matter the length or the hair type just remember you are beautiful!
