We have been 90% natural through out our lives. What motivated you to transition? Tell me a little about yourself and your hair journey. Hey y’all! My name is Alondra, I’m 24 years old and I’m from Memphis, Tennessee. I’m a blogger, freelance video journalist, and lover of life! I decided to start my natural hair journey back in 2010 and to this day it’s still one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. How long have you been natural? I stopped getting relaxers in 2010, but I didn’t become fully natural until January of 2012, so it’s been a little over 2 years … [Read more...]

Naturally Fierce Feature: Ihsan

Hey, hey hey!!! I'm Ihsan Mujahid, and I currently reside in Delaware. How long have you been natural? Since birth, actually. My mom started my locs when I was 5 years old and I had them for 27 years. After doing everything I could with them it was time for something new and two years ago, I combed them out. They were only about shoulder length from the most recent cut, but it still took a week. What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper & why? I … [Read more...]

Naturally Fierce Feature: Nika

My name is Nika. I’m from Monroe, Louisiana and I’m currently living in Shreveport, Louisiana. How long have you been natural? I started out natural until the age of 10 yrs old. I got my first relaxer at the age of 11 yrs. old. I choose to return back to my natural tresses on September 24, 2011. I didn't like my relaxed hair because it was very thin. It never held a curl, and it would literally be stuck to my head from chemical burns. I didn't want to go through that anymore so I chose to … [Read more...]

Why are you natural?

This REALLY resonated with me. Let me explain. In my teenage years growing up in a small town where black people were the minority my top desire was to fit in. My skin colour was an obvious difference and I wasn’t able to change that. So what could I modify? My hair of course. So seeing these “popular” girls with their long, flowing straight hair and the desire to be one of them led me to relax my hair from a young age. To top it all off a strong sense of self-worth and confidence wasn’t … [Read more...]

What motivated you to … [Read more...]

Why “CAN’T” you go natural?”

I LOVE everything about natural hair. For me, going natural is really “returning back to natural.” I find it funny when someone is in awe of your beautiful curls/coils/kinks but does not see themselves as a potential future naturalista. Do not get me wrong, I believe it is personal choice that should be made because you want to however, some people who come up with the funniest statements that make me question whether their compliments really are compliments. In some cases their“reasons” for … [Read more...]

Video Tutorial: The Fast-Drying Flat Twist-Out

The flat twist-out is one of my favorite natural hairstyles! I love how it elongates my tightly coiled hair and I also love how easy and quick it is to complete. I set it in only 30 minutes and it was completely dry after only six hours. The style lasted for about four days. Since the twists were larger, they did not last as long as a twist-out done with small twists would have. I wore it down for two days and wore it up the other two to get my four days of wear out of it. Check out the video … [Read more...]
