My husband and I were recently discussing how we plan to cut our son’s hair for the new school year. Hulk, as my son prefers to be called, has curly hair that is very similar to my own. I love when Hulk’s hair grows out into a curly top, faded on the sides and back. But, my husband insists on his favorite cut, a low-cut Caesar.
While talking to my hubby I realized that men have a world of hair care of their own. I have always known this to be true from watching my father care for his hair as a child, but I was given a clearer picture. My husband’s hair care routine is completely different from my own:
- I use moisturizers, oil, and sealers all at one time, whereas he will only use a moisturizer. On some rare occasions he may use oil.
- I rarely ever brush my hair (finger and wide-tooth combs only), but he faithfully brushes his hair everyday to define his waves.
I tried to explain what we could do to define Hulk’s curls, but was reminded that we were talking about “boy’s hair.” So, my questions to you are:
1. Is there really a difference between boy hair and girl hair?
I believe that hair is hair no matter whose head it happens to be on. But, I also understand my husband’s point of view.
2. If you have a son, do you determine how his hair will be styled and/or cut?
I have learned to leave Hulk’s haircuts up to my husband, while offering suggestions sporadically. There is a bond between a father and son that develops around their hair care and I believe it is a “DO NOT DISTURB ZONE.”
Please share your thoughts.
