Naturally Fierce Feature: Christina

I’m Christina, but many call me Poofy! I was born and raised in San Diego, moved to LA to pursue a career in fashion/ lifestyle on television. Growing up, I would always fight my natural curl. And like many curly girls I wanted straight hair. I would constantly straighten and torture my hair to stay flat when all it wanted to do was live and be free! When I moved away to college I noticed how dry and damaged my hair was and decided to cut it short. A friend gave me my nickname “Poofy” and it truly is my fierce alter ego I have embraced and used to find confidence in myself and my hair.

How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural for 4 years now.

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why?
I went all out and did the big Chopp! After all the years of straightening and flattening my hair I knew the only way to unlock its full potential was to chop it off and start fresh. Since then I never let heat touch my hair. I’ve unlocked my hair to be as been free-spirited and wild like me.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
The most memorable part of my journey has been obtaining my nickname “Poofy”. I came to a dance audition looking a mess (w/my natural hair) and went and killed the audition to make my school’s hip hop team. My friend said my hair helped me stick out. The name grew on everyone and I sometimes forget to refer to my own name when introducing myself! It’s grown to be apart of me and who I am. My journey has been quite easy. I mean we all have the days (especially during summer) when our hair get dry frizzy and we want to hide under a rock. But I’ve learned to embrace what God has blessed me with and rock it out in style!

What are some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles?
My hair styles have been crazy! I’ve went from a little poof, to side poof, side poof w/ extreme hair designs designs and even some dying. Now I’m on the road to growth to get those long, sexy Beyonce style curls!

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural? Any memorable reactions from family or others?
Not a day goes by where I DON’T get a compliment about my hair. I always get the “I wish I had hair like you” or “for real..it’s not a perm?!” I love inspiring women who have like hair like me and just don’t know what to do to embrace what they have. I preach about keeping your hair natural and just letting it live!

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
I wash my hair every 2-3 days w/ a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Sulfate free helps it to keep from drying out. After the shower I use Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Creme and smooth and scrunch it through out my hair. If I want that perfect natural bounce, my best remedy is to lay my hair up and sleep on it. If I want a more wild natural look I just air dry.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?
I don’t follow too many natural hair websites/blogs but when I do come across those fierce looks I make sure to save them on Pinterest!

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
Take on life with a curly perspective and let yourself (and your hair) be free!

Unquestionably believe that which you stated. Your favorite justification appeared to be on the internet the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get irked while people consider worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks
