Naturally Fierce Feature: Lila

I’m Lilas LaFleur soul singer/songwriter based in London originally from the Congo.

How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural for 2 years, but its been 4 months I’ve stopped weaving and braiding my hair.

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper & why?
I had my big chop in 2011, I grew up having my hair natural and I’ve done so many hairstyles, and I’ve come to an age where I wanna go back to how I was before, natural. And my hair can’t stand the weave and braids anymore, last time I had braids I kept them for a week, I felt like I couldnt breath.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
It wasn’t easy but very enjoyable to know my hair, I read so much and watch so much videos and listened to my hair, I love it.

What are some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles?
I love my hair in the Afro, let it out and let it breath, but because my hair hasnt got the length that I want, I flat twist my hair and wear wigs for my gigs.

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural?’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?
Yes, my hubby used to say I wont stay like this Ill change my mind, and now I’ve done it for 4 months he’s impressed. My sisters gone natural before me so they’re happy Ive done it.

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
I use the LOC methods everyday, water, mixed of oils (olive oil, castor oil, coconut oil) and Aphogee leave in conditioner. I love Aphogee products.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?
YOUTUBERS: naturalbaby100, nubiaaisutton1, nappynfree, naptural85, intellectualelegance

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
I just wanna say that going natural changes the way you see the world, I use to bleech my skin and stopped it and loving my chocolate skin, God made me this way so me bleech means that He created me wrong, He made a mistake naaahh no way lol, love yourself as you are. Im transitioning my daughters hair as well and teaching her about our hair and she loves her Afro.
