I am in the early stages of recovery (no, really), so I was doing a little research and thought I would share a few suggestions for surviving a bad hair cut. Hope they help. :()
At one time or another, we have worn one. We have agonized with our friends while they wear one. We have snickered at magazine covers showing celebrities wearing one. Unavoidably one stirs strong emotions from tears to tears of laughter. What is one? A bad haircut!
Fortunately the old adage, “time heals all wounds” helps to ease the mental anguish of a bad haircut. You see, hair cells are similar to skin cells so they are constantly multiplying to provide the body with plenty of new growth. Hair grows at a rate of approximately one-half inch each month or over 6 inches over one year. This pace of growth may seem comparable to watching grass grow when it is you wearing the bad haircut, but it is quick enough to overcome a bad haircut in reasonable time. Of course growth will vary from person to person and may be less where there are certain factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, malnutrition or hormonal imbalances.
10 Ways to Survive a Bad Haircut:
1. Feature It – If your haircut is not working, try drawing the attention to a feature on your face. Try a new color eye shadow, lipstick or blush.
2. Massage It – Increased blood flow to the scalp can stimulate and accelerate growth so gently massage the scalp daily or better yet, get your sweetheart to do it for you…Wink-Wink!
3. Part It – Changing the parting of your hair is a simple and quick way to change the entire style, and helping to mask a bad haircut.
4. Feed It – Stick to a healthy diet. Eat plenty of leafy green vegetables and plenty of protein. Soy (i.e., tofu) and a variety of beans are a good source of protein. Really! Eating healthy does stimulate growth.
5. Juice It – The green juices contain dark green veggies like spinach, kale, and romaine that are an excellent source of vitamins A & C, which your body needs to produce sebum. What is sebum and why should I care about its production? Sebum is the oily substance secreted by your hair follicles which acts as the body’s natural hair conditioner that when secreted can enhance growth.
6 . Cut It – Yes, I know you are still traumatized and uncontrollable quiver at the sight of a scissors coming toward you. Now get over it! A corrective trim won’t make you hair grow any faster, but trimming your hair regularly during regrowth keeps your ends neat. Remember, cutting the ends is only cutting out the dead hair since hair grows from the root, not the ends.
7. Accessorize It – While your hair is growing out, try wearing a hair accessory to distract from a bad haircut or complement other features of your face.
8 . Color It – If your hair is filled with tons of high-lights or lo-lights, then the appearance of a choppy haircut might only be enhanced.
9. Mix It Up – Try new turbans, updos, puffs, buns, or protective styles such as braids or kinky weave.
10. Treat It – Look at it as a good reason to explore the new hair products! Between you and me, a heaping shopping cart full of new haircare products has never made me feel bad. And who knows, a new regimen of conditioning and controlling just might change your mind about that haircut.
Remember you have great hair hair days ahead of you! (Just not today, lmbo)
