CAN YOU REALLY REPAIR SPLIT ENDS?

split ends

I have seen this question popping up more than usual and maybe it’s because of some new products on the market claiming to repair split ends. Yes, the claims are shocking and probably falling on happy ears but in all reality my dear Naturals…

No, you cannot repair split ends.

Please do not kill the messenger. I would be doing you a grave injustice by lying so after I give you TWO different experts giving valid details on why this cannot occur, maybe you will calm down and we can find other ways to solve your split ends.

 The Right Beauty Brain Replies:

“We’re afraid that split end repair products are lots of bluff and not much stuff. To see why, you have to understand a couple of things about basic hair biology. Hair is dead and once it’s damaged it can’t repair itself. A new strand of hair can grow out, but any part of the fiber that’s already damaged can’t heal itself. And when hair is damaged it looks like this:

Despite what hair care companies might tell you, there’s nothing that can actually repair a hair that looks like that. At best, you can temporarily smooth the split by using a product that covers the damaged area with a film. But the next time you wash your hair that protective film washes away too.” The Beauty Brains

 The Natural Haven replies:

“Conditioner contains a variety of agents which are particularly attracted to areas of damage. For example silicones are particularly good for temporarily fixing split ends. Fatty alcohols such as stearyl alchohol and surfactants such as behentrimonium chloride can adsorb (meaning temporarily stick) onto hair. (Don’t tune out – See the diagram below!). However, all of these ingredients will wash out. The only remedy for damaged hair is to cut off the damage and let the hair regrow.” The Natural Haven

It’s important to weed through the fallacies to find the facts and the most important detail from above is that hair is dead and it cannot repair itself. Yes, there are products that may temporarily aid in smoothing the split ends back together but let’s not get confused by this knowledge. It will only be a TEMPORARY resolution to the problem.

Solving the problem is through removal and despite our need to hold onto our tresses as long as possible, bust out the shears Naturals and remove the split ends for the sake purpose of maintaining healthy hair. A trim is what you need.

All is not lost in the war against split ends. There are great ways to keep from getting split ends in the first place and that is the better solution to the problem. I do not want to just damper the mood and not help.

Here are some tips on keeping the split ends at bay:

1. Stay away from the heat

2. Keep hair moisturized

3. Deep condition weekly

4. Stay away from the chemicals like texturizers, relaxers and harsh dyes

5. Do not over manipulate the hair with combing and brushing.

6. Sleep with a satin bonnet or on a satin pillowcase or both

7. Get regular trims but that could just be about once or twice a year

We can win this battle of split ends if we do what is necessary to NOT get them. Are we doing that Naturals? We better!

Stay split end free Naturals, Sabrina

I as well as my buddies were actually going through the great tactics located on your website while before long got a terrible feeling I never expressed respect to the site owner for those strategies. Most of the women are already absolutely happy to read all of them and have surely been making the most of them. I appreciate you for turning out to be well considerate as well as for considering this form of outstanding resources millions of individuals are really needing to be informed on. My personal honest regret for not expressing gratitude to sooner.
