Naturally Fierce Feature: Kiah

My name is Kiah Kinard, I’m from Cali but live in Texas. I was born and raised all over really, I’m a military brat. I’m 26, I’m Chinese, black, white and Blackfoot Indian. Im a Makeup artist, I have my own company Tokyo Lakai Makeup Artistry, and I also freelance with MAC occasionally.

How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural for 3 years and I LOVE it!

What motivated you to go natural? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper & why?
I transitioned to natural hair because I got tired of weaves and Relaxers. My hair was breaking off due to coloring and relaxers. I was a transitioner, I didn’t know I was going or wanted to go natural I just got tired of putting chemicals in my hair. I didn’t realize how beautiful my curls were until I took out my weave one day and someone commented on how beautiful my curls were.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
The most difficult part was not having a weave and hair down my back lol… My hair has always been fairly long. A weave was easy and manageable, most of my hair was out of my way. I didn’t realize how thick, long and how much hair I had until I didn’t have a weave lol. The journey is easy because my hair grows like weeds lol but it’s difficult because there’s so much! Lol

What are some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles?
My go to style is a bug huge bun ontop of my head! Lol it’s easy reliable and out if the way. I’ve never really experimented with any other style, mainly because I have so much hair it seems like so much work!

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural?’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?
I get alot of compliments on my hair or I get alot of people asking me if I have on a wig or a weave, like they can’t believe a black women can have so much hair. Lol it’s comical and offensive at the same time. Then they want to argue with me telling me I’m lying about my hair, then they want to touch it which is a complete no no! Lol

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
Initally, I used mixed chicks, but now, I’m using Mizani milk bath conditioning shampoo, organix coconut milk products (conditioner, anti breakage serum, hydrating oil mist) and pure coconut oil. I also do natural deep conditioners with honey, egg whites, coconut oil, olive oil, avocados and bananas.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites, YouTuber’s, or blogs?
I follow @msbeautifulcurls on Instagram and I usually get my products to use off Pinterest, which I LOVE! @msbeautifulculs taught me the pineapple method which I’m sooo thankful for because that silk pillow and bonnet was not working! Lol

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
If I were to tell the readers anything it would be that it’s all a process! Nothing happens over night, natural products are your best friend! And ignore the shrinkage! Lol

Where can people find you for more information?
