No matter the type of curly hair you have, taking care of it and using the right styling techniques can make a difference in how your hair looks each day. Curly hair is prone to frizzing, drying and becoming coarse when not cared for properly.

Choose an Experienced Stylist

■ The stylist you choose needs to be familiar with curly hair, according to BeautySurvival.com. A stylist proficient in curly hair can advise you on styles and cuts that will work best with your hair type and face shape. A stylist familiar with curly hair can also provide you information on how to take care of your hair as well as point you in the direction of the best hair-care products.

Purchase the Right Products

■ There are different types of curly hair, such as wavy, corkscrew and fine tendrils. Curly hair can also be thick, coarse or fine. To find the best type of products for your hair, you need to know your type of curl and type of hair. Purchase hair care products that are specifically designed for your type of hair and your type of curls to get the best results.

Care for Frizz

■  Curly hair is prone to frizz, especially in high humidity. Use moisturizing shampoos specifically designed for curly hair to help reduce frizz, according to Aveda. When blow drying your hair, use a diffuser on low speed and high heat. After your hair has dried, do not run your fingers through it or frequently brush it, since this can cause static electricity to build up and increase frizz.

Prevent Brittle Hair

■    Curly hair is prone to breakage and becomes more brittle than other types of hair. To prevent your curly hair from breaking or becoming brittle, use shampoos that replace the natural oils in the hair and are specifically designed for curly hair types. Use specialized serums for curly hair that contain silicones, which will help prevent your hair from breaking or becoming frizzy and dry.               One of my favorite tips for the winter is applying glycerin to my spray bottle to help keep the moisture in.
