Should Head Wraps be Worn in the Workplace?

Many of us naturals have struggled with the way our hair should be worn in the workplace, but what about head wraps and turbans? Is there an appropriate way to wear them or should they even be allowed in the office at all? I’ll be the first to admit that I was against this whole idea of head wraps in the office, unless it carried a religious meaning. Actually, I wasn’t even really excited, at first, to be writing this article since I had such a strong opinion about it being prohibited. … [Read more...]
Deep Conditioning: Your Hair’s Best Friend

Deep conditioning is something we know all too well. Depending on your hair’s needs, some naturalista’s may feel like doing it once a week or once a month is sufficient enough. I use Africa’s Best Organics Hair Mayonnaise as my deep conditioner once a month to strengthen and moisturize my hair. The directions instruct leaving it on for 15 minutes but I prefer leaving it in overnight and washing it out in the morning. Overall the product has done wonders for my hair and has contributed … [Read more...]

Are we obsessed with hair growth pills?

Something occurred me recently...there seems to be a current “trend” of taking hair growth pills. It seems like every other day a new pill is being marketed for hair growth, nail growth and healthy glowing skin. Now, do not get me wrong, I have no issues with people wanting to have healthy long hair, as I myself like my own hair. However, I do have some concerns about how we want to achieve all of this. I always get the feeling that while these kind of pills have helped some see growth, they … [Read more...]

The Power of the Natural Hair Movement on Dating

I received many comments about my natural hair, both positive and negative. For some reason the latter tend to weigh heavier than the former. Around the time that I started my transitioning process I met someone who became my love interest. My best friend was rocking her curly hair and as he looked at her he was touching my hair. “I really hope that your hair turns out like hers,” he said. My first boyfriend loved my curls. Back then I was relaxing my hair and occasionally I was too lazy to … [Read more...]
