Deep Conditioning: Your Hair’s Best Friend

Deep conditioning is something we know all too well. Depending on your hair’s needs, some naturalista’s may feel like doing it once a week or once a month is sufficient enough. I use Africa’s Best Organics Hair Mayonnaise as my deep conditioner once a month to strengthen and moisturize my hair. The directions instruct leaving it on for 15 minutes but I prefer leaving it in overnight and washing it out in the morning. Overall the product has done wonders for my hair and has contributed tremendously to its health.

Deep conditioners have proven to be quite beneficial for hair over the years. The ingredients are meant to hydrate hair that has been damaged by chemicals, heat, and medications in addition to repairing and providing nourishment. Besides making hair softer and healthier, it is also essential to preventing and fighting against breakage. Popular deep conditioning ingredients include avocado oil, almond oil, aloe vera, argan oil, and sunflower seed oil.

2. Pantene Truly Natural Deep Conditioner

3. Camille Rose Algae Renew Deep Conditioner

4. L’Oreal Ever Sleek Smoothing Deep Conditoner

 

If you are into DIY, here’s a couple you can try at home:

1. Yogurt and Honey Hair Mask

Ingredients: 2 tbsp natural yogurt

1 tbsp honey

¼ tsp coconut oil (for thin hair, use 1/2 tsp for thicker hair)

How to Make:

1. Melt coconut oil then combine all ingredients together

2. Work mask into hair from scalp to ends; give scalp a good massage

3. Leave on for 15-20 minutes.

4. Wash as normal.

*this can be done weekly to restore hair

2.  Protein Deep Conditioner

Ingredients: 1 egg

½ c apple cider vinegar

1 c plain yogurt

5 drops essential oil of your choice

 

How to Make:

1. Mix ingredients in a bowl.

2. Apply to wet hair and leave on for up to an hour.
