Fashionable Friday Feature: Ashley

My name is Ashley, but some may know me as FabEllis. I reside in North

Carolina and I’m a southern girl at heart. I love to travel, thrift and

spend time with family and friends. I’m passionate about looking good on a

budget and of course, natural hair.

How would you describe your style?

My style is a mix between classic and trendy. I love to take classic

pieces like wide legged pants, a shift dress or even skinny jeans and mix

them with trendier pieces. I’m also a lover of prints and the colors black

and white.

How do you decide what to wear in the morning?

I know a lot of people dress for their mood, but I think dressing up

enhances my mood so I dress for the weather. I usually take a glimpse at

the weather and then ask myself, “Are you going to give them some heels

today or no?”

What are your favorite wardrobe pieces?

My favorite wardrobe pieces are a wide legged pants, skinny jeans, khaki

blazer, printed blazer, heels and of course, anything with leather accents.

Where do you typically shop for clothes and accessories?

Surprisingly, the thrift store and Target’s clearance section are my

favorite places to shop. I also shop wherever I can find a piece I need

for a great price, which ends up sometimes being Belk or even Rainbow.

Let’s talk hair. How long have you been natural? What is your normal

I have been natural for over three years. My normal regimen is once a

week, I will wash my hair with sulfate-free shampoo, condition, deep

condition and then style by using the LOC method. I often try new products

for my hair, but some of my favorite products to use are Shea Moisture’s

Moisture Retention Shampoo, Pantene Truly Natural Deep Conditioner, Cantu

Deep Treatment Masque and Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea All Natural Curl

Defining Cream.

To maintain my hair, I wear a silk bonnet at night. In the morning, I take

off the bonnet and let the steam hit my hair. That refreshes my curls

enough to wear for a full week.

Do you have a signature hairstyle?

Yes! Coil outs!

How does your natural hair work with your style?

I feel it works great with my style. It’s short and sassy like my style.

Are you working on any ventures that we should know about?

Right now, I am planning my upcoming wedding so most of my focus is on

that. However, I do have an online store:

How can we stay connected with you?
