I live in Maryland and have been interning at education-based organizations since I graduated. Besides, work and hair I love to run. How long have you been natural?

I have been fully natural for 10 months! I transitioned for a little less than a year before I chopped those ends off. My transition to being natural was gradual because I could not let go of my length just yet

How would you describe your hair?

I would describe my hair as thick with medium strands. I recently incorporated castor oil into my regiment because I use to have very fine strands. This oil helped SO much with thickening my strands and making them more resilient.  My hair is coily all over with looser curls at my nape. My mane definitely has a mind of its own and I can’t force it to do anything it doesn’t want to. Just not going to happen.

What do you love most about your hair?

I love that my hair is so full of life and personality. It is versatile and makes me feel unique. I was natural until I was 17 and then I wanted to “fit in” with the crowd by getting perms. Once I reverted back to my natural state I felt so much more confident in my skin and I can say my hair helped me love myself even more.

What has been the most memorable part of your journey?

The most memorable (ongoing) parts of my journey is how supportive my boyfriend is of my natural hair. He has Locsand once I became natural he TOTALLY embraced it. He always compliments my “out” styles and loves that it makes me stand out. I also retwist and color his Locs so it really brings us closer. What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?

My hair regimen is still evolving because I am still learning more about my hair each day. But as of late I wash every 2-3 weeks (depending on if I am protective styling) and deep condition at that time as well. I shampoo with Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Shampoo, still figuring out a good condish. I’ve experimented with HH, Jane Carter and Shea Moisture, Curl Cremes I stick to Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and oils I use castor and Jane Carter Nourish and Shine. I love me a good twist out so that is my go to style after all is said and done 90% of the time.
