Naturally Fierce Feature: Summer

1. Tell me a little about yourself and your hair journey.
I’m Summer. I’m from Louisiana.  I’m 34 year old and I am married with one child.
2. How long have you been natural? Have you always embraced your curls?
I’ve been natural for almost 2 years, 22 months to be exact.  I don’t have many curls to embrace, but I have plenty kinks that I love. It took me about 6 months to totally embrace what was coming from my scalp naturally.

3. What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why?
My main motivations were me and my inquisitive mind. I wanted to know what I would actually look like with unrelaxed hair. I tried to transition, but it was a no go for me. I want to shout out all of you who do transition. You’re the real MVPs! It was too difficult for me. After 3 months, I got up, went into the bathroom, and snip snip!

4. How would you describe your hair?
Kinky. Curly. Coily. Cool.
5. What do you love most about your hair?
I love the fact that Amber, my hair,  is MINE. No one else’s hair is the same. I can fix her  to suit me and that’s why we get along so well.
6. What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy, difficult, or both?!
The most memorable part was around month 11. I took my protective style down and there was all this hair! I had never had hair that went pass my ears and so thick. I was like “whoa, why didn’t I do this sooner?!” I had no idea my hair had the ability to keep surprising me over and over again! The journey is both easy and difficult. Yes, that’s possible. Some days you are so in love with your hair and I want to go frolicking through fields of flowers, other days I want to go back to the 12/11/12 feeling and cut it all again. The field frolicking outweighs the other thoughts though.

7. What are (or were) some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles or current dos’?
I’m a twist out girl all day! Once I master the flat twist out no one will be able to tell me a thing.

8. What have your experiences been as a ‘natural’? Any memorable reactions from family or others?
I love watching my mate and mom’s reaction when she sees my hair after I do something new to it. They always stare and give compliments that make me smile for days. When I first cut my hair, I lost some associates due to mean comments, but “look at me now”. Good riddance  to those non-supporters.

9. What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
Every other week, I give my hair a good washing and deep conditioning. I normally wash with Shea Moisture’s Moisture Retention shampoo. When I have buildup, a Braggs ACV rinse is in order.  I alternate my DC from Aubrey organic to Ynobe Shop’s amla and nettle to Hairitage hydration’s sticky honey hash.  I blow my hair out 1-2 times a month with my one and only argan oil blow dryer. I use Tresseme Heat Tamer to do that.  For my twist outs, I alternate products that I know will give me great results such as Camille Rose’s Almond Jai Twist butter, Ynobe shop’s Ayurvedic double butter, oyin juices and berries pomade.
I do the LOC method always. My favorite leave in is Kinky curly Knot today. My favorite oil is grape seed oil.
I will try anything once and sometimes once is all I need.
10. What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?
Of course I love to read the features on Global Couture! I like a lot of YouTubers such as Beautifulsoul401, tycrable, Marquita83, piecesofnika, and sunsetandwaves just to name a few.

11. Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
What can I say and not sound so cliche’? DO YOU! When we are happy with ourselves, the world has no other choice but to be happy with us!!!
12. Where can people find you for more information?
I’m on Instagram @summoore80.

I have read your article carefully and I agree with you very much. This has provided a great help for my thesis writing, and I will seriously improve it. However, I don’t know much about a certain place. Can you help me?
