Naturally Fierce Feature: Tangela Crawford

My name is Tangela Crawford. I am a 28 year old wife, mother of two (boys), hair stylist and salon owner in the Memphis area.

How long have you been natural?

I have been a fab natural for 18 months now and I must say I AM LOVING IT! I made this bold chose after attending a “natural cutie” competition that spot lights natural women here in Memphis. October 6, 2011 with the support of my husband I made the big chop. Only two months after the competition! I felt it would be best to cut it all off so I wouldn’t have to deal with two different textures of hair.

What are (or were) some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles or current dos?’

My hair grew fast. I went from a twa to a small Mohawk and now enough hair to mode up in a faux bun but my favorite style is a dry twist set. Now that I have been natural for a year and a half, people can’t imagine me relaxed. I guess it’s because I’M NATURALLY FLY!!!! Yes you are 🙂

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural?’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?

My most memorable moment was having to dry my 7 year old son’s tears as I explained to him that a woman’s beauty is not defined by her hair but by her heart. He was so afraid that I would be made fun of. (LOL) he loves his mama!

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?

I mentioned that I’m a hair stylist so healthy hair is very important to me. I shampoo and condition my hair at least once a week when not in a protective style. I use natural shea butter and virgin olive oil when styling. I take biotin and drink tons of water daily. My favorite products right now are shea moistures’ curl enhancing creme and 4 naturals’ curl refresher.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites, YouTuber’s, or blogs?

I have gotten a lot of helpful ideas and tips from YouTube. My favorite youtuber is SimplYounique.
