Tell us about yourself.
My name is Camille Gray, I’m 23 from Clinton, Mississippi!
How long have you been natural?
I transitioned for 9 months before my big chop November 11, 2015.
How would you describe your hair/What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
My hair requires LOTS of moisture. I typically wash my hair every Saturday and, if necessary, a cowash sometime during the week. I also deep condition every two weeks with Briogeo “Don’t Despair, Repair” or a homemade mixture. Some of my weekly favorite products that work well with my kinky, curly textured hair are Trader Joe’s tea tree tingle conditioner, Shea Moisture jbco leave in conditioner, curl enhancing smoothie, and style Milk, DevaCurl coconut super cream styler, Mielle Organics white peony leave in, water and coconut oil.
What do you love most about your hair?
I love the thickness and length of my hair now! I’ve done lots of cute styles/ protective styles with my twa that has made this growth process so much fun.
What has been the most memorable part of your journey?Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
The most memorable part of my journey is the first time I was able to put my hair in a puff! I was so excited about my growth. This journey has been a fairly easy one. The most difficult part is making sure I finish setting my styles at a decent time at night so they’ll have time to completely dry over night.

What are (or were) some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles or current dos’
While transitioning, perm rod sets and Bantu knot outs were my go to styles! They were easy and would last a few days. If I didn’t feel like doing either of those styles, I would do two flat twists as a protective style for the week. Perm rod sets are still my all time favorite, as well as flat twists.
What have your experiences been as a ‘natural.’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?
My friends and I actually started our natural hair journey together about two years ago. I ended up reverting back to “the creamy crack” for about a year before I finally made up in my mind I wanted to transition. My family, friends, and boyfriend all accepted and loved my natural hair. My nana has been natural for years and after my big chop my aunt actually transitioned to natural as well!

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?
There are MANY naturalistas and blogs that I admire but just to name a few: blacknaps.org, naptural85, mahoganycurls, naturalgyrls, ambrosia malbrough, donedo, kiitana, naturallyphilo, smartista beauty, treah nykia, dose of glamm.
Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
I would say the most important part of your natural, healthy hair journey is patience! Along with drinking lots of water and healthy eating. Making sure you’re healthy within will result in healthy hair. Also, learn what works for YOUR hair. It’s not a “one product fits all” or a “one style fits all” journey.
