Garlic for Hair Loss and Shedding!

using garlic for natural hair

You may have heard of garlic for heart health and cholesterol, but have you heard of garlic for hair loss? If not, you may be missing out on a very safe, natural and effective solution for your shedding and hair loss worries.

Why does it work?

Garlic contains allicin, a natural substance that can improve blood flow to the scalp, get rid of any bacteria or fungi living on the scalp and hair, and give life to damaged follicles. Many times, hair loss can be due to unknown bacteria or fungi present on the scalp and garlic can kill those bacteria, which stops them from wreaking havoc on your hair. By increasing blood flow to the scalp, lifeless, damaged hair is rejuvenated by garlic and it’s active ingredient, allicin.

How should you use it?

To use garlic as a hair loss/shedding remedy, can use it one of 3 ways:

1) Garlic Infused Oil

To use garlic infused oil on your scalp you will need a few garlic cloves and an oil your choice. Olive oil is a good option. Peel a few cloves (4 or five) and slice them. Next, simmer them in the oil on a stove for 15-20 minutes. Be sure to add enough oil to cover the cloves and to have some oil to use later (at least a cup of oil) If the garlic starts to brown or burn during the process, remove it from heat and reduce the cooking temperature, then continue simmering. After the oil has cooled, apply it directly to your scalp and let it sit for at least 15 minutes. Rinse the garlic oil and proceed with washing/conditioning your hair as usual.

2) Direct Scalp Treatment

For a more direct treatment, crush a garlic clove, then apply it directly to your scalp by gently rubbing it the area where you need it. Let it sit for 60 minutes. After that, apply an oil of your choice to your scalp and massage it in. Cover your head with a plastic cap and go to sleep. In the morning, wash and condition your hair; then proceed with styling as usual.

3) Garlic Shampoo and Conditioner

There are specially formulated shampoos and conditioners that contain garlic. You can buy them, or make your own. To make your own garlic additive for shampoo or conditioner, crush up a clove with a press or a mortar and pestle, then mix it with the amount of shampoo or conditioner you intend to use. Be sure to give your scalp a good massage as you work the product through your hair, then rinse.
