Naturally Fierce Feature: Gloria

Hey y’all, my name is Gloria! I’m form Las Vegas I just recently moved to Texas with my Husband and our kiddos! We’ve been here for about 9months.

What motivated you to transition? Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper & why?
When I left Vegas I knew I wanted to wear my hair natural but I wasn’t 100 percent sold because I was afraid what my hair texture would be like and didn’t know if I could manage it. However my sister in law who is natural and also lives in Texas motivated me and encouraged me! She is a cosmetologist so I trusted that she would help me take the best care of my hair. So I did the Big Chop! I chose to do the big chop because my hair was already in a short hair cut and I wanted to expierence being natural from scratch!

My sister is also a photographer gave me an awesome photo shoot the day after my BC to show my friends and family back in Vegas my big chop! It made me feel beautiful,and very confident. I love my sister 🙂

What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?! The most memorable part of my journey would be my husband’s reaction to my BC! He absolutely loved it;) he told me I was even more beautiful. I was afraid he wouldn’t like it but I was wrong, he kept me and is still keeping me encouraged til this very day. This journey hasn’t been difficult for me, i mean I have good hair days and bad hair days. But I tell you what, I get more compliments on the days that I not feeling my hair than on the days I think I’m all that! Lol. As the months go by I seriously embrace my hair everyday when it’s not as defined as I would like, I say oh well this is my hair 😉 and I go on with my Day.

What are some of your favorite hairstyles or current dos?’ Some of my favorite or current do’s would be wash n’ go, box braids, twist outs, my puff (using a headband) and turban wrap!

What have your experiences been as a ‘natural?’ Any memorable reactions from family or others? My experience as a natural has been Awesome! Seriously I love every minute of it! Once someone asked me “have u ever straitened your hair before”? Lol I thought it was funny because people in Texas only know me as natural, so they have no idea all the hairstyles I’ve rocked prior to moving here.i get comments and compliments from every race and gender.

What is your hair regimen (including fav products)? I don’t really have a hair regimen. I mean I wash my hair using Carols Daughter shampoo once a week,and I deep condition it after I wash it. And I use Giovanni direct leave in conditioner and Castor oil to do my twistouts! I recently just got in to Shea moister coconut & hibiscus curl enhancing smoothie because my hair gets very dry. So far I am very pleased. It keeps my hair moisturized for days.

What are some of your favorite natural hair websites, YouTuber’s, or blogs? My favorite you tubers are : IKnowLee (my hair crush) OnlyJmarie, NatutrallyGG and recently just subscribed to TierraJ.

Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words? There’s this quote I love it says ” we do not GO natural, we RETURN, natural is where we began”! That is my favorite quote regarding natural hair. I want readers to know that choosing to wear my hair in its natural state isn’t a trend for me it’s the way God intended for me to wear it, and I believe I’ll experience my growth and more healthier hair than I ever did prior to being natural.
