Naturally Fierce Feature: Jada

My name is Jada.  I am 22 years old from Philadelphia,  PA. 

 
How long have you been natural?
I have been natural since February of 2012
 
What motivated you to transition?
I was so sick of spending money to perm my hair and after it was permed it had no body to it it was just flat. Lol I also was tired of spending so much on weaves that I never liked the way they were done. I gave up on both and decided to go natural after watching a million YouTube videos.

 

Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper& why?
I transitioned for a month than I decided to big chop. I did it so quickly because I was excited to see my hair texture and use use all the products I heard of. It was a great decision.
 
What has been the most memorable part of your journey? Has it been easy or difficult or both?!
The most memorable part of my journey was when I tried to do a DIY deep conditioning treatment with mayo eggs and olive oil and I had boiled egg in my hair for like two days lol. It has been both difficult and easy. Some days when I experiment with new styles I never like them and it frustrates me. But I’m still learning.
 
What were some of your favorite transitioning hairstyles or current dos?’
I mainly wore puff and braid outs all the time.

 (Now this is a great puff!)

 

 
What have your experiences been as a ‘natural.’ Any memorable reactions from family or others?
Yes! So many of my family members thought my hair was going to be “nappy” or wasn’t going to grow. But it did :). I also felt good that many other naturals had some many questions about my hair and being featured on hair pages and blogs (yours). It feels amazing.

 

 What is your hair regimen (including fav products)?
Each Sunday I detangle with herbal essence honey I’m strong conditioner. Put my hair in a few big plaits, co-wash and deep condition with a mixture using the same conditioner, mayo,and olive oil. Co wash again. Then apply alikay naturals lemon grass leave in and style. I shampoo once a month.
Favorite products are alikay naturals lemongrass leave in. Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie. All of herbal essence conditioners and Aubrey organic glycogen protein conditioner. Shea moisture deep treatment mask.

 

 What are some of your favorite natural hair websites,YouTuber’s, or blogs?
I absolutely love brosia her YouTuber’s xgoldn, msvaughntv and msnikkimae2003. Some websites are curlyNikki.com and also her book Better than good hair.
 
 Anything you want the readers to know? Inspirational words?
Don’t give up on your journey. Many people will have negative things to say but the natural hair community is so big that you’ll have so many supporters.
